Citadel Shade paints are used after basecoating to add shadow and separation. The Citadel Shade Set Of Citadel Paints gives you wash colours for recesses, joins and textured areas that would take much longer to shade by hand.
Load the brush enough to guide the shade where it needs to go, then watch for pooling on wide flat areas. Armour joints, cloth folds, chainmail and fur all respond differently, so the amount of shade matters as much as the colour.
Results change quickly depending on the colour underneath. Try unfamiliar shade and basecoat combinations on a spare part or hidden area first, especially when working over bright armour or pale skin tones.
