Seraphim Sepia is a warm, amber-brown shade wash and one of the most versatile shades in the Citadel range. Applied over a dried basecoat, it flows into recesses and surface detail, leaving a warm, rich sepia shadow that reads as aged, organic, and sun-warmed rather than grimy or cold. The warm amber-brown tone complements a wide range of basecoat colours without pulling them toward grey or blue.
The shade's versatility comes from the universally warm quality of the sepia tone. Parchment, vellum, and paper effects - scrolls, books, documents, and ancient text details across all factions - shade to a convincingly aged quality with a single application over Ushabti Bone or Rakarth Flesh. Human skin in warm-toned schemes, particularly sun-tanned or weathered infantry, uses Seraphim Sepia as the standard shade step in many painting tutorials, producing natural depth in facial features and hands. Leather straps, bags, sheaths, and belts across any army take a convincing worn quality under the shade. Bone and dried organic material, sandy basing, and warm metallic brass also respond well to the amber-warm shadow. The shade is sometimes preferred over Agrax Earthshade where a warmer, less brown result is needed on pale surfaces.
