Darkstar Steel is a mid-tone, practical steel metallic acrylic - the workhorse weapon and armour metallic in the Darkstar range, sitting between the dark Pewter and the brighter Silver on the tonal scale. It has the neutral grey quality of real working steel - not darkly aged, not brilliantly polished, but the functional everyday metal of weapons, tools and armour in active service.
Use as the primary metallic base coat for weapons across almost any army - bolter barrels, sword blades, axe heads, chainsaw teeth and the mechanical fittings of any miniature benefit from a Steel base before washing and highlighting. Also works as the single-coat finish for weapon metallics on speed-painted forces where a three-stage approach is not the goal. Covers well in one pass and pairs with any Darkstar wash to add tonal variation without extra base coat stages.
