Leviathan Purple is a rich, deep purple Contrast paint named after the Leviathan edition of Warhammer 40,000. Applied over Wraithbone or Grey Seer, it delivers a saturated, moderately dark purple that pools in recesses and provides a vivid result on raised surfaces from a single coat. The colour sits in the cool-warm boundary of purple - neither strongly blue-shifted nor strongly red-shifted, making it versatile across different painting contexts.
The paint was widely adopted for Tyranid carapace following the Leviathan launch, where the purple colour scheme of the box set Tyranids matches Leviathan Purple applied over Wraithbone. Beyond Tyranids, the paint suits Hedonites of Slaanesh robes and armour, Thousand Sons arcane details, Tzeentch daemons with a purple component, and general gem and jewel effects in a deep amethyst tone. Used as a shading glaze over a lighter lavender or light purple basecoat, Leviathan Purple creates depth in robe fabric and cloaks. Thinned heavily with Contrast Medium it produces a pale mauve wash suitable for large fabric areas where full-strength application would be too dark.
Citadel Contrast Leviathan Purple - a rich deep purple for Tyranids, Hedonites, Thousand Sons, and purple armour and robe effects.
