Citadel Layer Thunderhawk Blue is a dark, muted blue-grey named for the Thunderhawk gunship - the iconic heavy transport and gunship of the Space Marines, rendered in the deep, utilitarian blue of military aircraft. The colour sits in the dark, desaturated blue-grey range, functioning as a base or deep mid-tone in schemes that need a dark, cold blue quality - distinct from the pure blue of Kantor Blue and the warm grey of Mechanicus Standard Grey.

Apply as a basecoat or deep mid-tone on Space Wolves armour in very dark schemes, on Night Lords armour before lightning highlights, and as the base of the Seraphon armour workflow under Temple Guard Blue and Sotek Green. Also works for dark blue vehicle panels in military grey-blue schemes, for Tau sept armour in muted dark blue, and as a shadow colour in any cool blue-grey model where the deepest recesses should have a dark, desaturated blue quality.
