Citadel Layer Word Bearers Red is a dark, deep red named for the Word Bearers - the XVII Legion Astartes whose descent into Chaos worship predated even the Horus Heresy, and whose armour is the canonical dark, arterial red associated with devotion to the Chaos gods. The colour is a deep red with minimal orange in it, sitting darker than standard red layer paints and functioning as a mid-tone in schemes where the red should be deliberately dark and oppressive.

Apply over Khorne Red or a darker brown-red base on Word Bearers Chaos Space Marine armour, on Chaos Cultist robes in deep red, and on the banner and iconography elements of Chaos armies where a dark, powerful red suggests devotion without brightness.
