Contrast vs. Classic: Choosing Your Method

One of the biggest questions we get at the shop is: “Should I buy Contrast paints or the classic Base/Layer range?” The answer depends entirely on your painting goals and how much time you have after work.

When to go Contrast

If you have 60 Gante or 40 Guardsmen to paint, Contrast paints are a lifesaver. They basecoat and shade in a single pass. It is the ultimate “get it on the table” solution.

When to go Classic

For your centerpieces—your Primarchs, Greater Daemons, or Heroes—the Classic range offers more control. You can take your time with glazing and layering to get that perfect, award-winning finish. Most hobbyists find a mix of both is the secret to a great-looking army.
